2019 Large Nonprofit
Interfaith Works
Interfaith Works (IW) has worked since its establishment in 1972 to help lift people out of poverty through interconnected prevention, stabilization, and empowerment services.
IW has modelled a deep collaboration with Cornerstone Montgomery and CCI Health and Wellness, with all three organizations opening a shared facility in Rockville. People can access IW’s shelter and vocational services, while also taking advantage of Cornerstone’s behavioral health services, and medical care from CCI. This is a great example of three organizations finding a strategic alignment that benefits the population they all serve.
IW’s impact spreads far beyond the above collaboration. Last year IW:
- served almost 100,000 meals with the help of over 2,000 volunteers;
- helped 3,687 neighbors avoid eviction, stay utility cut-offs, and pay for medicine and food;
- housed 755 individuals and 62 children in emergency, transitional, and permanent supportive housing programs;
- provided $3.6 million worth of clothing and home goods free of charge to almost 13,000 income qualified people.
This is just a snapshot of IW’s work, but is demonstrative of the impactful and collaborative work that was awarded with the 2019 Large Nonprofit Making a Difference Award.
